The official announcement of the upcoming body of work was made public on April 8th, 2024 and was met with worldwide enthusiasm as longtime and newfound fans are gearing up for new original music.
With only a little more than a month for fans to mentally prepare for her new release, Billie didn't tease any audio snippets or singles and instead is dropping the entire album all in one go.
Let's dive into her latest album release.
SKINNY
Quoted as her lead single to the album, the sentimental and heart-wrenching song gives us a once in a lifetime glimpse into Billie's psyche as she describes societal pressure and expectations pertaining to thinness, success, youth, and love. As she asks the listener multiple hypothetical questions, comparing herself to a trapped animal, and simplifies some of the most painful thoughts, you can't help but shed a tear.
LUNCH
In 2024 did Billie come out to the public and fans had been speculating who her current partner is but to no avail. We catch our first glimpse into her love life within the single as she details the excitement within their new relationship, including the puppy love, the consistent awe, and speechless desire.
CHIHIRO
Symbolically named after the main character of the Japanese film "Spirited Away", in which she utilizes aspects of the classic picture to tell the story of her own life. Such as the feeling of isolation, being misunderstood, loneliness, and pain. In multiple interviews has Billie opened up about her appreciation for the film that had a lasting impact on her life and she felt deeply connected to her current timeline.
BIRDS OF A FEATHER
As Billie envisions the love she truly desires, she believes full-heartedly that the next relationship she puts her all into will be the last. She promises that her partner will feel nothing but complete devotion on her part and will be infinite for her.
WILDFLOWER
The song describes the habit of comparing oneself to another woman as Eilish doesn't yet feeling adequate enough. Despite receiving verbal appraisal and reassurance, she still can't shake the images replayed in her mind. Fans have speculated that the track is titled after her exes' prior relationship, with whom she compared herself to.
THE GREATEST
The singer recounts instances in which she completely devoted herself to her partner and became an entirely selfless being, such as foregoing her own health and wellbeing for them. Only after some time does she have the ability to understand her worth and pity herself for doing the most without recognition.
L'AMOUR DE MA VIE
The emotionally chaotic aura of the track details the lingering pain and aftershock of the breakup. Although she's come to terms with their bitter end, she admits to believing they were endgame. Despite the beginning of the tune representing a lullaby-like sound, the track eases into a techno-funk beat, giving the song a more retro & clubby feel as she says her goodbye.
THE DINER
Similar to other songs within her discography, Eilish takes on the persona of a stalker within her life, such as believing they're in love, being in a state of consistent obsession, and risking it all just to see them. As the singer has dealt with her fair share of dangerous circumstances related to stalking, Billie plays into the storyline but this time on the other end of the stick.
BITTERSUITE
The unique song describes the distance Billie feels from herself, both physically & emotionally, as though she's withdrawn herself from feeling. In addition to the disconnect she feels from her innermost thoughts, the singer explains the difficulty she has with verbalizing her feelings and permitting herself to experience these deep emotions related to longing, love, and adoration. The difference in spelling from "bittersweet" to "bittersuite" could possibly indicate her loneliness but also the lingering bitter feeling following the break up.
BLUE
This album will kick off her world tour, which will run from September to July. Although there are no openers or additions to the show, unlike her Happier Than Ever tour, which featuresd Arlo Parks, Jessie Reyez, and Girl In Red, fans are speculating if the singer will include surprise performers to join her onstage.
In addition to hitting #1 on Apple Music, releasing the accompanying music video for LUNCH", which is well on its way to hitting 1 million views in less than 5 hours, the album has received almost perfect scores across the board from acclaimed music critics. She'll be embarking on her "HIT ME HARD AND SOFT" tour this fall, where she'll perform across North America, Australia, the UK, and Europe.
